ASR Health Innovation Series Program

Bridging the gap between medical education and clinical practice through mentorship, innovation, and professional development to prepare the next generation of African healthcare leaders.

ASR Health Innovation Series: strengthening healthcare through innovative approaches

The ASR Health Innovation Series is a strategic initiative designed to support final-stage medical trainees by bridging the gap between academic study and clinical practice. Developed to ease the transition into high-pressure medical environments, this program equips participants with essential transition skills, a strong grounding in medical ethics, leadership capabilities, and personal branding strategies required for housemanship and long-term career progression. By offering a structured path from medical school to professional service, the initiative ensures that emerging healthcare workers are both clinically prepared and professionally empowered to face new opportunities locally and globally.

The Health Innovation Series reflects ASR Africa’s commitment to advancing health and human capacity development by creating opportunities for knowledge sharing, mentorship, professional development, innovation, and exposure for young medical professionals and future healthcare leaders.

Specifically, participants from this program will be prepared for the realities of housemanship and early clinical practice, develop clear and realistic career maps beyond the “Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) award, access global training, scholarship, fellowship, and professional development opportunities, and incorporate innovation and digital health as essential competencies for African doctors. Participants of the program will have access to mentorship and networks bridging the gap between medical students, young doctors, and local and international faculty.

Through a structured 3- session engagement, the ASR Health Innovation Series will be conducted both virtually and in-person with a high level of interaction and knowledge exchange. Mentors and facilitators are expected to share concepts and back them with real-life experiences to inspire the participants. They will use short cases, scenarios, or examples suited to diverse settings and allow time for moderation, questions, and answers. Each session is expected to leave the participants with clear actions, recommended resources and one key message.

With a pilot at the University of Maiduguri, the ASR Africa Health Innovation Series: strengthening healthcare through innovative approaches, is set to equip a future-ready generation of African health professionals. The program invites partnerships within the medical ecosystem to achieve its set goals.

ASR Africa’s commitment to health and human-capacity development reflects the commitment of its Chairman, Alhaji Abdul Samad Rabiu, in creating opportunities for Africans to create solutions for its problems. This initiative provides knowledge sharing, mentorship, professional development, innovation, and exposure for young medical professionals and future healthcare leaders.
